Food Bank of North Alabama

Project Description: The Food Bank of North Alabama works to end hunger by offering hunger relief programs that immediately feed people in need. It also addresses hunger’s root cause through local food initiatives that foster entrepreneurship and healthy food access. This project included the construction of a 50,000 sq-ft building with a 32-ft eave height to serve as a distribution center for the food bank. This new facility includes 8,000 square feet of cooler and freezer space built to support the food bank’s goal to dispense 14 million pounds of food to families in need in 2024.

GTEC Services: GTEC was the engineer of record for geotechnical engineering on the project. We performed soil test borings, a site-specific settlement analysis, shear wave velocity testing, and laboratory testing to provide shallow foundation, site grading, and site seismic classification recommendations. Specifically, GTEC observed the tilt-up paneling and steel reinforcement, as well as each pour for panels, slabs, foundations, and pour back strips to ensure complicity with established standards.
