Project Description: Lee was originally established as a junior high along Lee Highway in the 1950’s and didn’t become a full high school in the 1960’s. The high school had anywhere from 1,600-1,700 students enrolled and stood for 50 years. The new Lee High School that merged with New Century Technology High upon its opening is now located on Meridian Street. This 260,000 square foot school will accommodate 1,200 students in 80 classrooms, each equipped with wireless internet. The square footage also includes the Lee Lyric Theatre, which was built to accommodate the Creative and Performing Arts Magnet Program. Lee High School offers a broad array of academic subjects, including a full range of pre-AP and AP courses. New Century Technology High School is currently Huntsville’s only STEM Magnet high school with a focus in the fields of computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.
