Project Description: Mazda Toyota Manufacturing US, a high production advanced vehicle manufacturing company, broke ground in April of 2019 on a new $830 million facility in Huntsville, Alabama. The facility is a joint venture between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation. The new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility includes new cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to its production lines and enhanced training to its workforce of up to 4,000 employees. The project had a very aggressive construction schedule beginning with the April 2019 groundbreaking to production startup in Spring 2021.
GTEC Services: GTEC was selected to provide quality control materials testing and inspection services during the project’s construction phase. GTEC provided on-site observations and testing of all subbase and asphalt for the Test Track. Some of the services being provided by GTEC include:
- Field QC of Asphalt Placement
- Asphalt Coring for Density, Air Voids, and Thickness Testing
- In-place Field Density Testing of Aggregate Base Course
- In-place temperature and Field Density Testing of Asphalt
